Discussion on reducing the defect rate of FPC circuit board

The automotive electronics market is the third largest application area of FPC circuit boards after computers and communications. With the development of automobile from traditional mechanical products to high-tech products of intellectualization, informationization and mechatronics, electronic technology has been widely used in automobile, no matter it is engine system, chassis system, safety system, information system, in-car environment system, etc. Electronic products were used in the field. The automotive market has obviously become another bright spot of the electronic consumer market. The development of automotive electronics naturally leads to the development of FPC circuit boards for automobiles.


In today's FPC circuit boards, the FPC circuit boards occupy an important position. FPC circuit boards for automobiles have a special emphasis on high reliability and low DPPM. So, do we have the technology and experience in high reliability manufacturing? Is it consistent with future product development? In process control, can we do well according to the requirements of TS16949? Has low DPPM been achieved? All this needs to be carefully assessed, and blindly entering the tempting cake will do harm to the enterprise itself.

2, bad board test system

More and more FPC manufacturers have installed "good board marking system" and "bad board error prevention box" in the optical board testing machine to effectively avoid man-made leakage. The good board marking system marks the tested PASS board for the testing machine, which can effectively prevent the tested board or bad board from flowing into the hands of customers. Bad board error-proof box is in the process of testing out the PASS board, the test system output the signal that the box opens; otherwise, when the bad board is tested, the box closes, so that the operator correctly placed the tested circuit board.

3. Establish PPm quality system.

At present, PPm quality system has been widely applied in FPC manufacturers. Among our numerous customers of Cable Technologies, there will be someone responsible for the statistical analysis of the abnormal quality of FPC circuit boards and the abnormal return of FPC circuit boards. SPC production process statistical analysis method is used to classify each bad plate and each defective plate returned to the statistical analysis, and combined with micro-slice and other auxiliary tools to analyze which manufacturing process produce bad and defective plate. According to the results of statistical data, we have a purpose to solve the problems arising in the process.

4. Comparative test method

Some customers of different batches of FPC circuit boards using two different brands of comparative testing, and tracking the corresponding batch of PPm, so as to understand the performance of the two testers, so as to select a better performance tester for testing automotive FPC circuit boards.

5, improve test parameters.

The technology will often choose higher test parameters to strictly detect such FPC circuit boards. Because, if the higher voltage and threshold value are selected and the number of high-voltage read-out leakage is increased, the detection rate of FPC circuit board defects can be improved.

6. Periodically check machine parameters.

After long term operation, the test parameters of internal resistance and other related parameters will be deviated. Therefore, machine parameters need to be adjusted periodically to ensure accuracy of test parameters. The testing equipment of our Caboer Technology is maintained and adjusted in half a year or one year. The pursuit of "zero defect" automotive FPC circuit boards has been the direction of the majority of FPC efforts, but due to process equipment, raw materials and other constraints, FPC world top 100 enterprises are still constantly exploring ways to reduce PPm.
